Papers and a photograph collected by Lyla Vinje relating to veterans of the Civil War and World War II. A photocopied school report provides some information about a Gilbert Anderson of the 15th Wisconsin Infantry regiment in the Civil War; however, the unit roster does not show a Gilbert Anderson on the rolls. A photocopied Blanchardville, Wisconsin newspaper clipping from 1995 commemorates the 50th anniversary of the return home of Herbert Anderson, who served in the Pacific during World War II. Both of these men were ancestors of Vinje. A letter to Vinje from a Wisconsin Veterans Museum staff member provides background information about the lone photograph in the collection. The cabinet card photograph shows William R. Shepheard, a Civil War veteran of Company B, 6th New Jersey Infantry Regiment, lying on a cart and knitting. While the photograph is undated, Shepheard's age in the picture indicates it was years after the war ended.
